The Most Special Person In My Family

6-1 김민용

Hello, everyone!

I’m Min-Yong Kim, the sixth grader class from Jangja Elementary School.

Today, I want to talk about my grandfather, the most special person for me in my family.

On my grandfather’s birthday in February, my grandfather, dad and I were sitting side by side at a restaurant. It was strange that everyone passing by our table glanced at us and smiled. I felt bad at first because it seemed they were laughing at us. But after we figured out why they smiled at us, we all laughed out loud.

In fact, my grandfather, father and I look almost the same. In Korean, we call it "bungeobbang," meaning fish-shaped pastries.

I’m sure that my appearance in my 40s will be like my father''s and that in my 70s will be similar to my grandpa''s

Many people learn from their families, or they''re influenced by their parents, brothers or sisters. For me, I''ve learned so many things from my grandfather. My parents may be upset about this, but they will understand it easily after all.

If my grandfather got born nowadays, he would have been very popular among the young girls because he is handsome enough to be called "uljjang."I heard my grandma fell in love with him at first sight not only because of his nice appearance but because of his great personality.

When my mom got married, my mom''s mother finally accepted the marriage after meeting him, saying, “A father’s personality is supposed to show up in his son.”

He makes me feel comfortable every time. Whenever I do something good or bad, he always supports me, praises me and encourages me.

My mom sometimes nags me to do something right, but, on the other hand, my grandfather never yells at me.

I feel his kind advice makes me reflect on my wrong doings more than when I was scolded by mom and others.

I think the reason why my grandfather is respected by many people is because he is such a kind and considerate character that cant be bought with money. I really want to have that kind of character when I grow up.

My grandfather is very passionate about learning. When I, my mom and sister were at Canada last year, he was trying to learn how to use the Internet despite his age of 70. He wanted to do that so as to talk with us via an Internet video-telephone.

Because of his efforts, we could see and talk each other through the Internet almost every day, and we felt like we were in Korea.

Also, to communicate with us in English, he tried hard to learn short English sentences.

An expression like _ "What time is it now?" _is very easy for us, but it would be difficult for the old. But my grandfather said he was happy to learn those English words from us.

Actually, he is very fluent in Japanese and is also excellent at baduk game. As such, my grandfather is very enthusiastic about learning something.

I imagine that the four generation of my grandfather, dad, I and my future son who looks like me will sit side by side on the table.

Guess what? I think people will give a bright smile at us again. I praise for my grandfather every day. I really hope my grandpa will live a long life with good health.

“I love you, grandpa~!”

Thank you for listening.
